Fortune-mod contains the ever-popular fortune program, which will display quotes or witticisms. Fun-loving system administrators can add fortune to users' .login files, so that the users get their dose of wisdom each time they log in.
To install fortune on your Fedora box
#yum install fortune-mod
Call /usr/bin/fortune in your shell whenever you want, for Slackware's motd login style, put a shell script file stored in /etc/profile.d for example /etc/profile.d/fortune.sh contains fortune command (of course, you apply some options). motd should be displayed whenever you login in.
